Your MEGABOOM will stay on without an active stream for 15 minutes before it powers off to save battery life.

Your MEGABOOM can sometimes get into a state where it doesn't charge. To get your MEGABOOM back to a normal charging state, do the following:

  1. Connect your speaker to the charger and leave it connected for a few seconds.
  2. If the charge LED fails to pulse continuously, disconnect the cable from your speaker, then reconnect it, and leave it connected for a few seconds.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until your speaker gets to a normal charge cycle - the LED should continue to pulse. (This could take up to 25-30 times.)
  4. Once your speaker gets to a point where it charges normally, continue to charge it until the battery is at 100%.

Be sure to update the firmware on the speaker so that the issue does not re-occur. To update your MEGABOOM software:

  1. Download the latest app for your speaker.
  2. Connect your speaker to your smartphone and open the app.
  3. Tap More, then tap the update prompt.

In order to access the latest and greatest features for your ULTIMATE EARS speaker, make sure you update:

  • The ULTIMATE EARS app
  • Your speaker

To update the ULTIMATE EARS app: iOS: Open the App Store and tap on Updates to see if you need to update your ULTIMATE EARS app. Android: Open the Google Play Store, open the menu (usually the three bars next to Google Play in the search box), then tap on My Apps to see if you need to update your ULTIMATE EARS speaker app. Note: Some features also need to be turned on in Settings (for example: Tap Controls). Open the ULTIMATE EARS app > More > Settings and turn on the feature you're looking for.

While updating your ULTIMATE EARS app on an Android 6 (Marshmallow) mobile phone, you may see the following error: If you experience this issue, please follow the instructions below:

  • In the Google Play Store, tap on UNINSTALL button
  • Agree to uninstall the speaker app - it only takes ~5–10 secs
  • Once the speaker app is uninstalled, the INSTALL button will appear
  • Tap INSTALL and the speaker app should install successfully

You can double up your MEGABOOM and BOOM. However, they can only play back in standard Double Up mode, and cannot switch to Stereo mode. Using the speakers in Stereo mode won't give you the best experience, as the sound signature for each speaker is different. Please see the Immersion Guide in the app for more details on the difference between Stereo and Double modes.

Tap lets you control the music directly from your MEGABOOM. Note: Tap Controls can only be enabled through the app. The first time you use this feature, you must connect your MEGABOOM to the app. Once they are connected, open the app to activate Tap Controls in the settings. Once it's activated, you can use Tap Controls with or without the app being active. To use Tap Controls, first pick up your MEGABOOM and hold it upright. (Note: Your speaker may be held at a slight tilt, but Tap will not work if the speaker is upside down or on a flat surface.) Tap the top of the speaker:

  • One time - To play music and tap again to pause the music.
  • Two times - To skip a song.

Yes, some smart devices (smartphones and tablets) come equipped with a newer technology called Bluetooth Smart (or Bluetooth Low Energy, BLE). This feature is required to turn your speaker on and off remotely within the MEGABOOM app. Go to the following page to get a comprehensive list of Bluetooth Smart and Bluetooth Smart Ready devices. Bluetooth Smart Note: This list may not contain all of the latest devices that are compatible with Bluetooth Smart. Refer to your device's support documentation or contact your device's manufacturer for more information. Make sure Bluetooth Smart is on

  1. Connect your BOOM or MEGABOOM to your smart device
  2. Open the BOOM or MEGABOOM app (make sure you have the latest version of the app, check the Apple App Store or Google Play Store for the latest version of the BOOM or MEGABOOM App)
  3. Tap More, then Settings
  4. Find the Bluetooth Smart setting at the bottom of the screen and make sure it is set to "On"

Additionally, not all speakers will support this feature. Supported:

  • MEGABOOM
  • BOOM with firmware 8.1.121 or 7.1.133 and later

Unsupported:

  • BOOM with firmware 6.8.58 or 5.8.58 and older
  • MINI BOOM

The volume on your iOS device and MEGABOOM are synchronized, but because your speaker has double the amount of volume steps, it will take twice the number of button presses on your speaker to reach max volume. If you adjust your volume on your iOS device, there are only 16 volume steps, so from the lowest volume setting to max volume, it will take 16 presses. Your MEGABOOM has 32 steps from lowest to max, so 32 presses are needed to reach max volume from the lowest volume setting.

You can remotely turn your MEGABOOM on and off using the MEGABOOM app. This feature is automatically enabled the first time you connect your MEGABOOM to your smartphone and run the app. To turn your MEGABOOM on and off remotely, open the app and tap the power button. NOTE: This feature is only supported on Bluetooth Smart ® enabled devices. Check with your device manufacturer to see if your device supports this feature.

There are two ways to check your speaker's current battery level. Button press

  • Press your speaker's 'plus' and 'minus' buttons at the same time. An audio message will play telling you the current battery level. You can change the language of the message from within settings section of the app.

MEGABOOM app

  1. Open the MEGABOOM app.
  2. Tap the +/- area on the MEGABOOM on the home screen to display the battery life while your speaker is on.

A backup alarm will play on your phone or tablet.

When you cross different time zones, your MEGABOOM alarm will NOT automatically change to the new time zone even if the clock on your phone changes. You have to adjust the alarm time in the MEGABOOM app manually.

If your alarm played on your phone instead of your MEGABOOM, check the following:

  • Your phone may be out of range of your MEGABOOM – make sure the two devices are within 100 feet of each other.
  • The Bluetooth connection is off on your phone or your phone is in Airplane mode – make sure you keep the Bluetooth connection on.
  • Your MEGABOOM has no power – be sure the battery on your MEGABOOM is charged or the MEGABOOM is connected to a power source.
  • Someone else is using your MEGABOOM when the alarm is scheduled to go off.

Your alarm will still activate as you have it set.

If your alarm played the backup alarm sound instead of the music you selected, check the following:

  • The music service or internet radio app you selected may not have activated.
  • Your phone may be out of range of your MEGABOOM – make sure the two devices are within 100 feet of each other.
  • The Bluetooth connection is off on your phone or your phone is in Airplane mode – make sure you keep the Bluetooth connection on.
  • Your phone may be off or out of battery – make sure your phone is on (your alarm will still play if your phone is Locked)
  • Your phone may have lost the connection to the internet/network.

That song will repeat until you turn the alarm off. After 1 hour, the alarm will turn itself off. If you snooze your alarm, it will play for an hour from the last snooze.

On your phone or tablet:

  • Snooze by tapping the Snooze icon.
  • Turn off your alarm by swiping the arrow from left to right.

On your MEGABOOM:

  • Snooze by pressing the Bluetooth button once.
  • Turn off the alarm by pressing the power button.

Snooze will delay the alarm by 10 minutes. If you don't snooze or turn your alarm off, your music will continue to play for an hour.

Most music services work with the MEGABOOM alarm, including popular services like Spotify and Pandora. To use a music service with the alarm:

  • Play the music you would like from the music service. This can be a specific song, a playlist or a radio station.
  • Then go to the alarm settings in the MEGABOOM app and select "Last Played".

You have two options when selecting the alarm music on your MEGABOOM: Last Played: Choosing this option allows you to set the alarm music with the last song that was played from your phone or tablet. This can be music that is stored on the device itself or it can be music that was played from a music service (e.g. Spotify, Pandora, Deezer, etc). In the case of music services, you can select a specific song, a playlist or even a radio station. My Library: Choosing this option allows you to set the alarm music with any song(s) from the local music library on your phone or tablet.

No. Your alarm will play on the primary MEGABOOM that it was connected to when the alarm was set up. It will not play on two MEGABOOMs, even if you last used them in Double Up mode.

You can set your alarm to repeat daily by selecting "Daily Repeat" in the app Alarm settings, but you will not be able set multiple alarms for the same day.

Before you can set an alarm on your MEGABOOM, you will need to make sure that you have the MEGABOOM App. To download the app, please visit Google Play or the iOS App Store. Once you have the app installed, open it and tap ALARM to set it up.

If you have two MEGABOOM speakers, you can use them together to amplify your sound. Here's how: Using the app

  1. Connect your first MEGABOOM to your Bluetooth device.
  2. Open the MEGABOOM app and tap the "Double Up" icon then tap Start in the Double Up screen.
  3. Turn on your second MEGABOOM.
  4. Tap Start in the MEGABOOM app.
  5. Press the Bluetooth connect button on your second MEGABOOM twice (quickly).
  6. The two MEGABOOMs will now be connected to your Bluetooth device.

Note: You can also use the app to "lock" the Double Up connection so when you power both of your MEGABOOM speakers up, they'll automatically reconnect in Double Up. See "Activating Sticky Double Up" for more help. Without the app

  1. Connect your first MEGABOOM to your Bluetooth device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume + and Bluetooth button simultaneously until you hear a tone.
  3. Turn on your second MEGABOOM.
  4. Press the Bluetooth button on your second MEGABOOM twice.
  5. The two MEGABOOMs will communicate and once they connect you will hear an audible confirmation.

Use the MEGABOOM app to manage the two modes: Double – Expands the audio to the two MEGABOOM speakers for double the sound. Stereo – Turns the two MEGABOOM speakers into Left and Right speakers (you can also swap the left and right designation using the app). IMPORTANT: You can only use the "Double Up" feature with one connected Bluetooth device.

Unfortunately, MEGABOOM cannot Double Up with MINI BOOM.

Yes, but make sure your BOOM has the latest BOOM software. BOOM update version 7.x and 8.x allow for compatibility with MEGABOOM, but versions 5.x and 6.x do not. Your BOOM and MEGABOOM Double Up in the same way as they would with another BOOM or MEGABOOM. See "Using the MEGABOOM Double Up feature" for more information.

If you have multiple MEGABOOM speakers connected to one or more iOS devices, you might not be able to select which speaker to use with the iOS Airplay menu. If you have two Bluetooth sources, try disconnecting the second source and use only one source. For the best experience, install the MEGABOOM app to manage switching between speakers.

Not only can you name your MEGABOOM anything you want, you can make the MEGABOOM app reflect your chosen name, too. Here's how: Android Device

  1. Connect your device to your MEGABOOM.
  2. Open the MEGABOOM app.
  3. Tap MORE, and then Settings.
  4. Tap Speaker name and enter the new name for your speaker.

  • The MEGABOOM can be connected to up to two devices at a time – make sure you don't already have two devices connected.
  • Turn your MEGABOOM off, and then back on again.

NOTE: If this is the first time you're pairing a device with your speaker, you don't need to press the Bluetooth connection button. It comes out of the box ready to pair.

If you're having trouble with audio distortion or drop-outs on your MEGABOOM, try these suggestions:

  • Move the audio source closer – it might be out of the range of your speaker.
  • Move away from other sources of wireless signal – you could be experiencing interference.
  • Make sure your speaker has enough battery power (connect it to a power source with the supplied adapter).
  • Adjust the volume on both the audio source and your speaker.
  • Restart both your speaker and the audio source.
  • Re-pair your device with your speaker (see "How do I pair additional Bluetooth devices with my MEGABOOM?").
  • If you're using two MEGABOOM speakers (in Double Up mode), try disconnecting and streaming to one speaker only.

NOTE: If you're streaming audio content from the internet, the issue could be with the internet connection and not your speaker.

Your MEGABOOM will remember the last eight devices it connected with. Pairing additional devices After you pair the first device (See "How do I setup my MEGABOOM?"), here's how to pair additional devices:

  1. Turn the speaker on.
  2. Hold down the Bluetooth button (above the power button) until you hear a tone.

Update using the app

Your ULTIMATE EARS speaker gets better all the time through regular, over-the-air updates. These updates are quick and easy and can be wirelessly downloaded through your ULTIMATE EARS speaker app. To get started, connect your ULTIMATE EARS speaker to your smart device, open the app for your ULTIMATE EARS speaker, and tap on "More" to see if there are updates available. If there are, just tap to begin the update and the app will take care of the rest.

Update without the app

While it is quickest and easiest to update over-the-air with the app for your ULTIMATE EARS speaker, if you can't update using the app or you simply prefer to use an old-school desktop updater, we've still got you covered. Click on the Mac or Windows download link below to download the update utility. After you download the app, run it and follow the on-screen instructions. You'll need to connect your ULTIMATE EARS MEGABOOM to your computer to complete the update.

REQUIREMENTS:  This update supports Windows 7 and above, Mac OS X (10.8.x) and above.

MAC OS X UPDATE WINDOWS UPDATE

Block Party within the Ultimate Ears app is no longer available with our latest app update, because we realized that the majority of our customers use their mobile phone's Bluetooth settings to switch between multiple music sources instead of Block Party. To easily switch music sources between you and your friend's device, just reconnect the Ultimate Ears speaker to the device's Bluetooth in your phone's settings and press play on your preferred music platform.

If your smartphone is NFC-enabled you can use it to connect your smartphone to your MEGABOOM, here's how:

  1. Ensure NFC is enabled on your smartphone (see your smartphone's documentation for help).
  2. Turn on your MEGABOOM. In some cases you may need to place your MEGABOOM in pairing mode. Press and hold the Bluetooth connect button on your MEGABOOM (above the power button) until you hear a tone.
  3. Hold your smartphone to your MEGABOOM right below the Volume + and – button for up to 10 seconds.

NOTE: You may see a pop-up on your smartphone asking you to confirm the pairing.

  1. You'll hear an audible confirmation from your MEGABOOM when the pairing is complete.

IMPORTANT: Your MEGABOOM stays in a pairing state for 3 minutes. If you are unable to pair using NFC, place your MEGABOOM into pairing mode and try pairing using NFC within 3 minutes. If you are unable to pair using NFC, see "Setting up my MEGABOOM" to pair through the Bluetooth device menu.

Software updates for your MEGABOOM can be done using the MEGABOOM app. Download it from the Apple App store for your iOS device or from the Google Play store for your Android device. Once you have the MEGABOOM app, here's how to apply the update:

  1. Connect your MEGABOOM to your smarphone or tablet.
  2. Open the app.
  3. Tap MORE
  4. Tap the Update Now message to begin the update.

For the best experience, we recommend connecting to one speaker through Bluetooth. However, industry-wide, for all Bluetooth devices, there will always be some latency (audio lag) when viewing videos, and the amount of the audio latency is specific to the video application and OS. The lowest latency, with a single speaker, is around 250 milliseconds. To most people, this is not a noticeable latency that negatively affects the video viewing experience. If you are connecting to one speaker using a 3.5mm auxiliary cable, check that your speaker has the latest firmware. You can update your speaker firmware using the BOOM or MEGABOOM app.
